The traditional awning has gained recognition because it is the style of awning most commonly associated with shop, hotel and restaurant facades from the Victorian and Edwardian era. It is in fact  the only awning suitable for conservation areas of historical interest, and is often viewed favourably by local conservation officers in planning applications.
